Our Journey
It was 1996. I was a young first-year apprentice when my then-boss scraped together his pennies to invest in a state-of-the-art drain camera from a long-gone company called Peerless. The gear came packed into a hefty cargo-style box on wheels, complete with a 10″ monitor, VHS recorder, chunky keyboard, and a 40mm camera head on a 60m reel of 8mm cable.
Back then, it took two of us to wrestle the beast into position — a real OH&S nightmare by today’s standards — plus a handful of extension leads just to power it. But at the time, it was cutting-edge kit. My boss was well ahead of the game, seeing the value in making such a massive investment. That camera system was worth $28k in 1996 — around $55k today.
Fast-forward 27 years (and more cameras than I can count), and I’m stoked to bring the New Zealand market a line of rugged, mid-cost drain cameras built for the realities of Kiwi worksites. They’re tough, packed with smart features, and designed to handle the kind of rough treatment tradies tend to dish out.
